The opening theme song of the Laverne & Shirley sitcom started with these words:
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
Schlemiel, schlemazel, hasenfeffer incorporated.
We're gonna do it!
Give us any chance, we'll take it.
Give us any rule, we'll break it.
We're gonna make our dreams come true. "
(See and hear it.)
A schlemiel is the putz who spills the soup in the lap of the schlemazel.
Hasenfeffer (or hasenpfeffer) is a German stew made from rabbit or hare.
CLICK for the difference between rabbits and hares. Bugs Bunny may be either a rabbit or a hare, or a combination.
Putz and schmuck are Yiddish words that mean both penis and fool.
